Hiking in Green Lake

Green Lake has lots of hiking in the surrounding areas. Go for a short nature walk or a serious all day journey. Either way, your Green Lake Family Vacation should include some time on our trails to connect with the area’s beautiful natural surroundings.

Mascoutin Valley State Trail

Located in Ripon, this trail stretches over three counties for 21 miles. The trail consists of a combination of gravel and dirt. Pass by farms, meadows and view plentiful geese and heron nesting and making themselves comfortable in the many marshes in the area.

Northwestern Trail

The Northwestern Trail begins in nearby Ripon and is a quick 2.8 mile hike along grass, gravel and dirt along what was once part of a railroad system. This trail is suitable for hikers of all levels, but be sure to keep a lookout for the many species of wildlife populating the area including foxes, deer, gophers and wild turkeys.


If your Green Lake Family Vacation includes biking on the agenda, you’ll find plenty of riding available both on and off road. Green Lake offers challenges for all levels of bikers.

For a serious road biking trip, consider a ride around Green Lake lake. A 27 mile trip around the perimeter consists of paved roads and non motorized paved paths. A trip around the lake will provide some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Wisconsin.

Mountain bikers can access the Ceresco Prairie Mountain Bike Trail at Ripon College. The trail features lips, jumps, switchbacks and challenging up hill climbs for the aggressive rider. The trail is built into the side of a large hill and winds through scenic hardwoods.

Green Lake Water Sports

The best experience in Green Lake is on the water. Make sure your Green Lake family vacation includes a lot of time on the water to make your trip memorable.


Feel the wind in your hair riding in a speedboat across the lake or take a leisurely pontoon cruise boat ride with friends and family. Whatever your speed of boating, be sure to check out the folks at Action Marina where you can rent several types of water craft or launch a boat of your own.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding has increased in interest over the years and it is a great way to experience the lake while getting a nice upper body workout. If you don’t have a paddle board, head over to Action Marina where you can rent one for a nominal fee.

Jet Skis

If you are not quite ready for the responsibility of handling a speedboat, a jet ski is an easy to use option that will let you explore the lake in it’s entirety at relatively high speeds if you want. Contact the folks over at Pierless Boat Rentals and ask about family jet ski rentals.

Older Family Getaways

Lake Cruise

If you want to leave all the work to someone else and simply enjoy the day, consider taking a lake cruise. Escapade offers sight seeing tours around the lake so you and your kids can learn about the culture of Green Lake all the while relaxing on a nice boat ride. Larson’s Famous Clydesdales

Everyone loves horses. So, make sure your trip includes an educational visit to see Larson’s Famous Clydesdales. Children will not only get to see the majestic horses, but will be given an opportunity to pet them as well. There is a 90 minute tour that ends in a family show for both kids and adults.


You will be hard pressed to find any chain stores and restaurants in Green Lake. The downtown area is passionate about preserving the historic culture that has made the area such a peaceful getaway for family vacations for years.
